Early Morning Family Photo Shoot in the Beautiful Mountains of Northern Utah

Does it get any better? I've done a few sunrise photo sessions in Logan Canyon and I love them! Getting out that early in the morning is always worth it. The light is soft and crisp, the kids are fresh and happy, and it's simply beautiful outside. This photo shoot was no exception. I was so impressed with how well behaved the kids were, and we just had a fun time together. Plus it was really good to catch up with an old friend, one of the many reasons I love doing family photography.

If you're scheduling a photo session with me, don't rule out a sunrise shoot right away. Consider the following benefits and you might decide that it's perfect for you and your family.

  • Start fresh and avoid "hangriness". As mentioned above, the kids are fresh and excited to be awake and playing for the day. Give them some breakfast and tell them you're going outside to play, and they'll be so excited. This usually leads to better listening and a happier time for everyone. Shoots in the evenings and late afternoons sometimes face the challenge of tired and hungry.
  • Sometimes better for scheduling. Sometimes shooting in the morning is better for work schedules. Also, husbands (much like the kids) are happy that they aren't missing dinner time and they don't have to dread family pictures all day long. We love those husbands!
  • No crowds. In the world of photographers, locations that are close, accessible, and beautiful, are not always easy to come by. And so, they are usually pretty crowded in the evenings on weekends, and sometimes weeknights. But mornings? Nope! I always find we usually have the entire place to ourselves.
  • Photographer's dream. There is a reason landscape photographers are early risers... the light! Morning light tends to be brighter and crisper than in the evening, which holds its own with its beautiful golden hues. But if you love an airy fresh look, you'll find it when the sun breaks over those mountains.

Have I sold you yet? If not, I totally get it. Mornings just don't work for some people. But if they do, give a sunrise photo shoot a try, I don't think you'll regret it. Those sunrise shoots are a hidden secret!
